DIY: Save $2,000 by Shortening Dryer Vent Hose

Here’s another great DIY tip from our friends at This Old House, but look at what happens when you compound the savings!

DryerShorten your dryer-vent hose. First, disconnect it and vacuum it out. Then trim the hose length so that it’s just long enough for you to pull the dryer a few feet out from the wall. A short and unobstructed line makes your dryer run more efficiently.

Cost: Free.

Savings: $25 a year on electric, gas, or propane.

Bonus: Your clothes will dry about 20 percent faster.

But don’t just stop there!  Saving = Good.  Saving + Investing = Great.  Now invest those savings into your monthly mortgage payment and see how much you will save!

Compound Savings:  $1,893!

Calc Dryer Hose

Saving a couple of dollars each month might not sound like that much.  But this family would save nearly $2,000 when they add the savings to their monthly mortgage payment.  Like you read in the book, Two Dollars saved is a Thousand dollars Earned!
